How to use Aerosol Touch-up Spray PaintInstructions and Tips for the best results when using Aerosol Spray Paint
Surface Preparation The surface that is to be painted should be clean, dry and free of grease and oil. Wipe down the surface with a mild solvent like Naptha if needed. To help the paint’s adhesion to glossy surfaces, dull the finish by using a fine grit sand paper.
Aerosol Directions Always shake an aerosol can for at least one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. If the mixing ball is not moving freely, turn the can upside down and tap the bottom of the can with the palm of your hand to free the ball. IMPORTANT NOTE: The can must be shaken properly to achieve the proper color and gloss. When spraying, always hold the can upright 10-12 inches from the surface. For best results, spray with several light coats of paint instead of one heavy coat. When a smooth continuous coating has been achieved, allow the paint to dry for 5 minutes, then continue. Occasionally shake the can between coats. After using the can, prepare the can for storage. Hold the aerosol can upside down and spray until you see a white or clear spray (2-3 seconds). This will clear the valve and prevent paint from drying in the spray tip.
Aerosol Storage Always store cans upright. Storing cans upside down can cause pigments to settle in the neck of the can or in the valve and cause blockage. Never store cans where temperatures may exceed 120 degrees fahrenheit. Cold temperatures will not harm the aerosol cans, however always allow the cans to return to room temperature before using. Note: Aerosol cans should not be stored at either extreme temperatures for prolonged periods of time.
Aerosol Recycling Both aluminum and steel aerosol cans are recyclable. Acceptability of aerosol for recycling varies among communities. Check with your local recycling/waste management center for aerosol recycling information in your area.
